The Weeknd in posthumous duet with Aaliyah

More than 20 years after Aaliyah’s tragic death, The Weeknd joins voice of late American singer on new song Poison. This duet will appear on a posthumous album by Aaliyah which will be released next year and which could be called Unstoppable.

According to Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle, the R&B singer’s final album could also feature collaborations with Drake, Future, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Snoop Dogg.

« I’m so excited to share this new song from Aaliyah and the very talented The Weeknd. I wanted her fans to receive a special gift before the holidays and thought this was the perfect time to bring out an offering never heard before. », Announced Barry Hankerson, also founder of Blackground Records.

Born January 16, 1979 in New York, Aaliyah Dana Haughton was killed on August 25, 2001 in a plane crash in the Bahamas, at the age of only 22.

The Weeknd had already used samples from another Aaliyah song, Rock the Boat released in 2001, on his play What You Need published in 2011.

Recall that the Canadian singer has been talked about in recent days thanks to the music video for his hit Save Your Tears which was crowned the most viewed music video on YouTube since the beginning of the year and the most broadcast clip on MTV in 2021!
