The Weeknd, or Abel Makkonen Tesfaye as he is actually called, intends to boycott the Grammy Gala in the future, at least until the organization behind the awards gala makes its nomination procedure more transparent.
Similar criticisms were made earlier this week by the former One Direction member Zayn Malik, which states that the current system “enables nepotism, racism and networking to influence voting”.
The Weeknds singel Blinding lights was the best-selling last year and the Canadian pop star was recently honored to entertain at halftime during the Super Bowl.
This year’s Grammy Awards take place on March 15.
