In the summer, many clubs had the junior federal leagues complained that their teams would lose too much match practice due to the season being played in a single round – and that where this was already the case in previous seasons due to the corona pandemic. At the end of 2022, the DFB then decided to introduce an additional “special game round” announced, in which all Bundesliga teams can take part from the end of March to June. This will start soon and run until June.
It all starts next Saturday, March 26th, at the A-Juniors. The mode provides that the teams are first divided into groups of four, in which each team then plays once against the three competitors – sorted regionally. Two teams each qualify for the A league, in which the teams from the final round compete for the German championship join. The other teams play their places below in the B-League. Almost all clubs take advantage of the opportunity to gain further practice in this way. In the west, only he cares FC Schalke 04 from, who plays for the German championship in the B-youth and obviously prioritizes upcoming cup and test games with the U19. Die B-Juniors then start a week later in this one-off competition, before there should be a full, regular season again in the coming season. In the B-Juniors three of the eleven groups have five teams. These complete an additional Wednesday game day and another additional one on April 30th.
