The weather – Up to 30 degrees Celsius!

With a heat wave spreading across Europe, parts of Norway are also getting a taste today.

Today it is reported to be very hot in several places, and East and Southern Norway in particular can enjoy temperatures of up to 30 degrees.

Be the winner

On-duty meteorologist Siri Wiberg at the Meteorological Institute says that one place in particular will be the weather winner in the coming days.

– Areas in the eastern mountains get the highest temperatures on Wednesday. Here we will probably see the 30s in several places – maybe above that as well, says Wiberg to Dagbladet on Tuesday evening.

Also further south in the country, those who have abandoned their trip abroad this week can get proper southern warmth.

– It was trope day in Vestfold county on Tuesday. Then it is expected to be even hotter on Wednesday, confirms Wiberg.

Stiff gales and precipitation

Although temperatures will be higher in large parts of Norway, some will experience more wind and stronger gusts today.

– It will be windy in Western Norway, and there may be stiff gales along the coast. There can also be stiff gales in Nordland. This means that you feel the wind well. We will issue gale warnings to boats along the coast if this happens, says the meteorologist.

HEAT RECORD: Norwegian Adrian has been on holiday in London with friends. On Britain’s hottest day ever, they seek shelter in Hyde Park.

Some places are also more exposed to rain showers and thunder.

– Both Vestlandet, Trøndelag and Møre and Romsdal will receive storm surge tomorrow. In places, there will be heavy showers and thunder, says Wiberg.

Northern Norway will experience changing weather, with both sun and precipitation over the next few days.

– The heat we have now is moving north so Nordland can get summery temperatures again. The same applies to Troms.

– In general, it will be changeable in Northern Norway, with stormy weather and some sun in between. More continuous rain has been reported in Finnmark, says Wiberg.

The risk of forest fires is increasing

The meteorologist warns of the ongoing forest fire danger, and specifies that the fine weather will mean that the danger will only increase over the next few days.

– There is already a forest fire risk in Østafjell, and the heat is not helping. It has become very dry, and the risk of forest fires increases with the very hot weather that will continue tomorrow, she warns.

– Then maybe there will be showers and thunder later in the week, but I suspect that it will not be enough to mitigate the danger.

The meteorologist confirms that it will not be as hot as it has been elsewhere in Europe recently, but she will still make an appeal to people who are now going out and enjoying the nice weather:

– Avoid open fires.

– We can’t do anything about lightning, it comes when it wants. Otherwise, it is usually high masts and machines that ignite, but in any case people must be careful, she adds.
