Despite the fact that the calendar shows in mid-November, the snow can wait for southern Norway. Despite the fact that the winter cold has ravaged the north of the country for several weeks, there is still no snow in sight in the south.
On Saturday, the snow trend in northern Norway continues. From Bodø and northwards there will be sleet and snow showers.
Sørlandet also receives some precipitation in the form of rain, but otherwise the meteorologist has good news for the weekend weather.
– It will be stay-at-home weather in the rest of southern Norway and quite nice. It will even be nice on the Helgeland coast, says meteorologist in Storm Geo, Olav Krogsæter.
On Sunday it will be stay-at-home weather in almost the whole country, with some clouds in Eastern Norway and some snow showers in Troms and Finnmark.
– There will be a lot of good weather this weekend, and calm weather in southern Norway, says Krogsæter.
Fare for frost
For the week, however, it turns around. A strong low pressure from the Norwegian Sea ensures rain and precipitation from Western Norway and north almost all week. Eastern Norway and Southern Norway are sheltered and escape the rain, while the west and north of the country become inclement weather and long periods of stiff gales.
Despite different weather in the country, there will be strikingly high temperatures – also in the north. Because even though the weekend is cool with the risk of night frost in both north and south, the weather will be milder throughout the country, all week.
– In Oslo it will be very middle, between six and ten degrees, mostly. Kristiansand gets about the same temperature, while Stavanger gets ten degrees every day next week, the meteorologist says.
Bergen also gets temperatures around ten degrees, while in Trondheim it gets a little cooler with between five and seven degrees. In both Bodø and Tromsø, the degree scale is between five and eight degrees.
No snow in sight
Krogsæter is aware that the high temperatures are far from normal.
– It is very mild to be November. It is well above normal, but we have become accustomed to it in recent years, he says.
Even in the far north of the country, it is surprisingly mild. Karasjok can barely keep up with the freezing temperatures, and is around zero.
– It is only on the Finnmarksvidda and in the high mountains that you get minus degrees for the week. In short, it will be mild and wet in the west and north, and mild and dry in the south and east, says Krogsæter.
Those who want snow in the south of the country must therefore either lubricate themselves with patience or go to the mountains, according to the meteorologist.
– There is no winter on the way in the lowlands, so there will be no snow here right away, he says.
