The previous high in 2022 is still on July 20th, when 40.1 degrees were reached in Hamburg-Neuwiedenthal. The heat record for Germany is 41.2 degrees and was determined on July 25, 2019 in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The temperatures are dropping
The extreme temperatures in Germany are at least coming to an end for the time being. Temperatures will drop below 30 degrees everywhere on Saturday at the latest, as the German Weather Service announced on Thursday. In the coming week the heat would probably come back again, but according to the current status it will not be quite as hot as this week.
Thunderstorm warning from the German Weather Service
For Friday night, the DWD warned of thunderstorms, some of which could be violent. From France and the Benelux countries, strong thunderstorms could spread to western Germany. There was a threat of heavy rain and squalls, as well as hail at first.
According to the DWD, the thunderstorms could also combine to form a larger thunderstorm complex. The thunderstorms should have arrived in the north-east of the country by Friday morning. For Friday afternoon and evening, the meteorologists are also expecting severe thunderstorms in the south.
