Dangerously strong winds over the weekend
In the coming days, Baba Marta will show some of her traditional antics. As a result of a passing cold atmospheric front, the weather will briefly go through several seasons.
It will be cloudy on Saturday. Rainfall will be intermittent over almost the entire country. It will be calm in most areas, but in the afternoon and evening in the southeastern half of the country there will be conditions for thunderstorms with momentary strong wind pulsations and small hail.
In the course of the day, the warm wind will subside in the southeast, and a cold one will blow from the northwest, with which cooling will begin. The gusts will be particularly strong in the afternoon and evening in the Danube Plain and especially on the central and eastern northern slopes of Stara Planina.
At night and on Sunday, the wind will weaken, but the temperatures will drop significantly. And if on Saturday they are in the wide range from 12 to 19-20 degrees, then on Sunday dawn they will fall a little below zero in the valleys of western Bulgaria. It will snow there – short-lived and without accumulation. Sunday will be cool and breezy, but cloud cover will gradually break, more visible in western areas. Later in the day, temperatures will fluctuate between 8 and 13 degrees.
The week around mid-March will start with sunny weather on Monday and Tuesday. On the first day, it will remain cool – in the morning with temperatures down to minus 4 – minus 5 degrees in the valleys of Western Bulgaria. After that, however, it will warm up again and on Tuesday afternoon the thermometers will reach 17-18 degrees.
Dynamic weather is expected on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the passage of a Mediterranean cyclone. If its trajectory continues, we will again have short-lived March snowfalls in the high places in the western half of the country.
