The winter weather started on Thursday. In the morning snow fell in the east and center of the country. That caused the busiest morning rush hour of the year. Later in the afternoon and in the evening it snowed throughout the Netherlands.
Because the temperature dropped considerably, the snow remained and the Netherlands was largely covered under a white blanket on 1 April.
