Now Christmas is fast approaching and many may be dreaming of a white Christmas. The forecaster says it is possible that the wish will come true.
State meteorologist Tone Christin Thaule says most of the country will experience sub-zero temperatures on Christmas Eve and Norway will escape the rain on the big day.
– The rainfall that will arrive will come as snow, says Thaule to Dagbladet.
He says the mild air found over much of Norway will likely drift south before Christmas Eve.
– Then it will probably be below freezing in southern Norway as well. The only exceptions are perhaps coastal areas, he says.
– I was the biggest flop
Snow showers
In Finnmark, low pressure is expected off the coast, which could bring occasional snow showers on Christmas Eve. Along the coast of Finnmark it will probably be a few degrees below zero, but on the plateau the temperature will drop to 10-15 degrees minus.
The meteorologist says there will probably be no snow showers in Troms, but it will be dry and beautiful.
– It seems that there will be lingering weather, says Thaule.
He says that, on the other hand, low pressure is expected from the north in Vesterålen and Lofoten down to Møre and Romsdal.
– Looks like the area will experience scattered snow showers on Christmas Eve.
Probably not skiers
– It will be cold and clear in western Norway on Christmas Eve, says the meteorologist, adding that no snow showers are expected in the region.
Much of southern Norway will also be cold and clear. Same with Eastern Norway.
Thaule says there’s a low pressure lurking in the west, which will change the weather during Christmas.
– The best day will be Christmas Eve.
– From Christmas day there may be sleet, snow and rain, and the weather will be milder, says the meteorologist.
