/ world today news/ DPS cut the BSP‘s measure to tax the rich with a higher tax. The intentions for a 15% tax on people with incomes above BGN 2,700 per month from 2015 and for differentiated taxation until the end of the mandate, promoted a day ago by social leader Sergey Stanishev, were met with a knife by the coalition partner, writes “Presa”.
“These ideas have not been discussed with us. We do not agree,” said the chairman of the budget commission Yordan Tsonev. He reminded that in the program of the “Oresharski” cabinet, it is explicitly stated that income taxes will not change. “The fact that we made concessions for the incomes of the poorest does not mean that we will agree to abolish the flat tax altogether. This is a principle from which we will not give up. It remains flat for the entire mandate – 10%,” Tsonev was categorical.
“Fortunately, it does not depend only on Yordan Tsonev”, countered the social deputy Georgi Kadiev in absentia. “If DPS does not want it, then the final decision will depend on GERB and Ataka”, he added. However, GERB will vote together with the MPs from the movement. “We are adamant about the flat tax. We will not change our position regardless of arithmetic. We take more from the rich anyway,” pointed out former Deputy Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov from GERB. According to him, the arguments of the defenders of the “wealth” tax and the examples of its application in developed countries are not convincing. “It’s a matter of model. Ours is better, every year the income from this tax increases,” Goranov added. The Reds can only rely on Ataka, but even that remains questionable.
“In general, we have a positive attitude to have a criterion above which a higher tax should be paid,” said Margarita Nikolova. There was a danger that the solution would turn out to be populist and not workable.
