Martina Schmitz, a yoga teacher, managed to lose 25 kilograms. With the help of an app, she changed her diet and integrated more exercise into her everyday life. Now she feels better and is motivated to help others.

Halver – Martina Schmitz in the swivel seat. She wouldn’t have thought that the yoga teacher would be able to do this asana, which perhaps doesn’t look so difficult, again. A year ago, her stomach was simply getting in the way, explains the yoga teacher. Thanks to an app, she managed to lose almost 25 kilograms of weight. Now she is really back in balance.

You might think that a yoga teacher in particular has to be in harmony with herself and her body, with her diet and exercise. But Martina Schmitz is honest: “As nice as it is to be a yoga teacher, you also have to take care of yourself.” And that was difficult for her for a long time.

Photo opens her eyes

Slowly, says the 62-year-old, the weight on the scales increased. She didn’t notice this change as consciously as she should have. “I thought I was beautiful,” she says. A photo finally opened her eyes. What she saw was no longer her. The scales showed over 100 kilograms – a shock for the woman from Halver. “I had a distorted image of myself.”

For her, it wasn’t just about appearance: “It’s not about beauty, but about well-being,” she emphasizes. With more than 100 kilos on the scales, her health suffered above all. Her knees hurt and she often felt tired and drained. Various diets had no effect until Martina came across the “Oviva” app. This is covered by your health insurance if your BMI is between 30 and 40 and offers comprehensive nutritional advice and support from coaches. Here the 62-year-old received nutritional advice, a nutrition plan including recipes and was supported and motivated by coaches.

With the app, the 62-year-old not only learned how to eat healthier, but also why it is so important to drink enough water. Martina has developed a preference for her new, protein-rich favorite dishes and sticks to clear meal structures: “I only eat three times a day and avoid snacks in between.” She also cleverly combats snacking attacks – instead of sweets, she now eats dried fruits. She has left behind her quick noodle meals between yoga classes. The teacher does yoga three times a day anyway. But she did even more workouts with her digital companion.

I lost 15 kilos in the first three months, 8 in the second.

The calculation is easy: a healthy diet plus exercise leads to weight loss. But the psyche is also important, says Martina Schmitz. Stress and mental stress also weigh a lot and should be addressed in the same way as excess fat. Holistic – that’s what the yoga teacher likes. But she also needed support and found it in the app. Individual stages at Oviva last three months. “I lost 15 kilos in the first three months, 8 in the second.” One month per kilo is considered a healthy loss, but it also happens faster, says Martina Schmitz. And not with a diet, but with a healthy lifestyle change – and that is healthy too.

“I’m feeling really, really good,” says the 62-year-old. Her knee no longer hurts, her body no longer restricts her. “I dare to do a headstand again,” she says. Before, the weight would have been too much strain on the neck.

Now Martina Schmitz not only wants to teach asanas, but also healthy eating. She wants to help women who now lack the courage to lose weight after many failed attempts and who are plagued by the yo-yo effect. “Who can convey it better than someone who has done it themselves?” For her, there are no more excuses: “Anyone can lose weight – and it’s not that difficult.”
