Finally in the cinema seat back to Pandora. This is made possible by the first trailer, which is to be shown exclusively before “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. But that is not guaranteed.
After the first trailer Avatar: The Way of Water caused a storm of enthusiasm at the Cinema Con (an event for cinema owners), Swiss cinema fans can now also witness the 90-second preview. However, as James Cameron is a staunch defender of the big screen experience, the trailer will initially only be seen in cinemas exclusively. Also because the 20th Century Studios, which are behind the Avatar series, now belong to the Disney group, the trailer is only shown at presentations of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – Marvel is known to also belong to Disney.
So, will all the cinema fans who will be catching the latest Marvel movie on the big screen in the next few days see the Avatar 2 trailer? We cannot say that with absolute certainty. Because it is up to the cinema operators whether they actually use the trailer.
Due to digitization, they can easily put together the opening act for a cinema film themselves. In this way, they determine which advertisements and which trailers they want to show. So while theaters have permission from Disney to show the Avatar trailer before Doctor Strange 2, if a theater chooses not to, or forgets to program the trailer, the audience is out of luck.
If you want to be on the safe side that he or she really gets to see the trailer, the best thing to do is to get in touch with the cinema.
Avatar: The Way of Water will be released in Swiss cinemas on December 15, 2022.
