The waste transfer pier is modernized in Taussac

The waste transfer dock, located in the municipality of Taussac-la-Billière, is the transit point for household and recyclable waste in the area. The drivers of the collection trucks come there to unload the waste in bins which are then transported to the treatment sites.

For the community of municipalities, this is the latest major modernization project for collection equipment. “Waste management is an important issue for the responsible inter-municipal authorities. We had to upgrade our equipment to improve operation and reduce transport and treatment costs.”, indicates the president Pierre Mathieu who went on site with Francis Barsse, vice president for waste management. The chairman clarified: “In two years we will have invested 2 million euros to modernize the collection sites, the three landfills in the area and, today, the waste disposal dock”.

Francis Barsse adds that the environmental dimension has been the driving force behind this investment program: “In Taussac, the coverage of the unloading and storage docks will minimize the flight of waste. A retention basin will also make it possible to capture and then treat runoff water before it is discharged into the natural environment. project”.

Covering the docks where the bins are stored will also protect them from rain and thus reduce the weight of the bins. For Mélissa Fabre, Director of the Environment Department at Grand Orb, “this has an impact on transport costs but also on processing costs”. It is also specified that the installation of a weighbridge will allow trucks to be weighed to optimize the capacity of the buckets.

Each year, the transfer dock receives 5,000 tons of household waste and 1,000 tons of selective sorting at the rate of ten truck rotations per day. The works will be completed by the end of the year for an amount of 530,000 euros financed by the community of municipalities with the support of the State and the Department.
