the warnings of Dr Moussayer Khadija

The Moroccan association of autoimmune and systemic diseases (AMMAIS), through the voice of its president, Dr Moussayer Khadija, specialist in internal medicine, draws attention to the dangers, at the time of deconfinement, of a lax behavior, especially in the use of masks.

And this in the light of a publication last June 11 by the American Academy of Sciences of a large study warning against the dangers of the progressive abandonment of the mask in public space, while, for its part, the Minister of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb, made a point of reminding himself, by a press release on June 27, of the strict observance of the preventive measures recommended by the health authorities, which firstly shows the correct port of mask next to hygiene, respect for physical distance and avoidance of gatherings

The mask, an inexpensive way and which can bring “big” to our health and that of others!

Scientists from the Universities of Texas and California at San Diego, authors of the American study analyzed the trend and mitigation measures in Wuhan, China, Italy and New York, from January 23 to May 9, 2020. They were thus able to show that the impacts of the mitigation measures are discernible from the trends of the pandemic: “Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without compulsory face covering represents the determinant in the formation of pandemic trends in the three epicenters . ”, Explains Dr Moussayer Khadija. According to them alone, this protective measure has considerably reduced the number of infections: more than 78,000 in Italy from April 6 to May 9 and more than 66,000 in New York from April 17 to May 9.

Still, according to these researchers, the other mitigation measures, such as the social distancing implemented, are not in themselves sufficient to protect the public. “We conclude that wearing masks in public is the most effective way of preventing human-to-human transmission, and this inexpensive practice, in conjunction with simultaneous social distancing, quarantine and contact tracing, represents the opportunity to most likely fight to stop the COVID-19 pandemic. “

The aerosolized and airborne distribution of the coronavirus constitutes the major route of spread

This work confirms the effectiveness of wearing a mask, reaffirming its necessity in the months following deconfinement and while awaiting vaccines and / or treatments against infection. They make it very clear that the mask is not only useful in preventing infected cough droplets from reaching uninfected people, but also in avoiding breathing in these tiny aerosolized particles which can also contaminate.

Better still, Dr Moussayer states that ” All these data known only now as well as certain precautionary and preventive measures have unfortunately been lacking in many countries of the world which have often affirmed the opposite and paid it at a high price in terms of excess mortality, however avoidable ».

The Chinese who have been wearing masks for years, mainly because of pollution, have well known how to control the epidemic by compulsory wearing of the mask from the start.

WHO on the front line for wearing a mask!

After having advised against wearing a mask at the start of the epidemic, the WHO has just published a good practice guide on the use of the mask, which lists an impressive number of instructions to be observed (almost too many!) To see. in its latest update, posted online on June 6

« It is never too late to do well! “Says Dr. Moussayer.
