The Warmehalle team thanks you for your support

The pandemic winter was undoubtedly a huge challenge for everyone. People in difficult life situations, especially those without a permanent home, faced particularly serious problems.

The shutdown of public life and the associated closings of shops, libraries and libraries mean that there is hardly any warm space for those in need. The emergency aid facilities in Wrzburg can currently only be occupied by a third due to the safety and hygiene requirements, according to a press release from the city of Wrzburg.

Hosted and warm place to stay for 16 people

For many people in need, institutions such as the station mission, the warmth parlor and the contact coffee mean much more than just a warm room and something to eat: this is the only place where some of them have the opportunity to establish contact with their fellow human beings in a protected environment. You experience human affection and warmth.

In order to compensate for the gap caused by the pandemic in the cold winter months, the warming hall was built on the ground floor of the post hall from January to March 31. As a result of the cooperation project between the station mission sponsored by the Christophorus Society and the social department of the city of Wrzburg, an additional, warm and protected place to stay for up to 16 people could be set up at the same time.

The offer was used by 45 to 50 visitors every day

At the beginning we were curious to see whether the offer would actually be accepted. But already on the first day almost 40 visitors came to warm up and eat a warm soup, reports project manager Johanna Anken. None of this would have been possible without the diverse support from so many quarters. Whether through financial donations, voluntary work on site, help with shopping, donated FFP2 masks, homemade cakes or weekly donations in kind organized by companies, the willingness to help was really great.

The heat hall was used by an average of 45 to 50 visitors on the approximately 70 opening days. Over 20 liters, around 70 servings of soup, cooked by the DB canteen, were served here every day. All of this was made possible primarily through the support of around 24 volunteers and almost 700 hours of voluntary work for the project, as well as the willingness of Wrzburgers, many companies, foundations and service clubs to provide financial support of 40,000 euros.

Project ended on March 31st

Therefore, now that the project ended on March 31, it is time to say thank you, also on behalf of the visitors: The Wrmehalle project has once again shown how valuable the excellent cooperation between the city administration, independent bodies and foundations, voluntary work, numerous citizens and companies are willing to donate, according to social affairs officer Hlya Dber. I would like to thank, also on behalf of our Lord Mayor Christian Schuchardt, above all the many helpers on site, coordinated by colleagues from the station mission and the BRK district association Wrzburg, for their commitment.

How good it was for the guests not to be forgotten even during this time is perhaps best seen in a thank you letter from a visitor: We thank you for the always friendly staff, for a warm seat, for the always good soup, for the daily Main-Post, for the delicious cake, the fresh fruit and everything we have forgotten! So we could survive the winter well!
