The 1C Game Studios team presented a new game called The War of the Worlds: Siberia. This is an action adventure game set in an alternate history. In Russia at the end of the 19th century, we will meet visitors from space. As the name suggests, the new game is inspired by the famous novel The War of the Worlds by Herbert George Wells from 1898. It is a big project that takes players to 1896, when the Earth becomes the target of a Martian invasion. It is the story of several characters who flee St. Petersburg further east in an attempt to save their bare lives. The title is supposed to take place in the first year of the invasion. We will visit interesting places and dramatic scenes await us, the studio promises.
What would it be like to place Martian machines in Siberia and pit the Cossacks against the aliens?
The authors entice you with a unique setting, an exciting action or an interesting story full of unforgettable characters who represent the classic archetypes of 19th century Russia. Open firefights await us, lots of weapons, but also passages in which we will sneak around or solve logic puzzles. The developers say they’ve always dreamed of making a “what if…” game like this. The team wondered what it would look like if the Martian invasion wasn’t just limited to good old England, but instead happened all over the world. They wanted to include Russia in the story because at the time it was a powerful empire plagued by internal strife.
According to the studio, the invasion from space is supposed to be a similar trigger as was the revolution in 1917. According to the authors of The War of the Worlds: Siberia, they were especially inspired by emotional story games. Their main goal is to tell an interesting and believable story, introduce players to a variety of colorful characters and immerse them in their world. But the idea is said to be much older. The premise allegedly began sometime in 2005. Even then, one of the screenwriters imagined what it would be like to place Martian machines in Siberia and pit the Cossacks against the aliens. This idea has been brewing for some time and now it will finally be realized.
We will wait for the invasion
The game was introduced to the world with a rather nice teaser, on which Czech and Slovak players may be interested in the similarity with Last Train Home. Of course, the games do not take place in exactly the same time and thematically differ, however, even in the case of The War of the Worlds: Siberia, the developers bet on an atmospheric animated film that takes us to Siberia, there are soldiers, a train… And yes, then there are the Martians .
The game is in development and does not yet have a set release date. We don’t even know the target platforms. In addition, the authors are still looking for additional artists, programmers, animators and designers, so we will probably have to wait a little longer. But the title is already running official Web, although you won’t find much here yet. And by the way, even though the premise may seem shocking, we’ve actually had something a little similar before. Remember the Stalin vs. Martians.
