Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia claims to be fighting NATO. This was revealed by President Vladimir Putin’s right-hand man, Nilokai Patrushev.
Patrushev is known as a hardline diplomat who holds the post of secretary of the Russian Security Council. He has promised victory in the Ukraine, despite a number of setbacks now being reported on the battlefield.
In an interview on Tuesday, he said that his country was indeed at war with the United States (US)-led alliance in Ukraine. He also said that the West was trying to wipe Russia off the world political map.
“The events in Ukraine are not a clash between Moscow and Kiev,” he told the Argumenti newspaper Reutersquoted Wednesday (1/11/2023).
“This is a military confrontation between Russia and NATO, and especially the United States and the United Kingdom,” he stressed.
“The West’s plan is to continue separating Russia and eventually wipe it off the world political map.”
He claims that Western political elites are corrupt and controlled by transnational corporations. He believes there are companies planning “color revolutions” all over the world.
“The American state is just a shell for a large corporate conglomerate that controls the country and seeks to dominate the world,” Patrushev said.
According to him, this is evidenced by the efforts of the United States to spread chaos around the world. You see it in Afghanistan, Vietnam and the Middle East.
“The United States has been trying to undermine Russia’s unique culture and language for years,” he continued.
“Russia is a victim of Western projects… The West is bleeding Ukraine to weaken Russia,” said the former Soviet Union spy.
“There is no place for our country in the West.”
Earlier, the United States denied Russia’s claims that the West wanted to destroy one of the world’s largest producers of natural resources. President Joe Biden has warned that a conflict between Russia and NATO could trigger World War III.
But in the latest NATO update on Tuesday, officials from the alliance and the European Union (EU) agreed to enhance security cooperation and support Ukraine in its fight to repel a Russian invasion. The joint statement includes protecting critical infrastructure, addressing the security implications of climate change, the space race, foreign interference and disinformation campaigns.
“We must continue to strengthen the partnership between NATO and the EU and we must further strengthen our support for Ukraine,” NATO head Jens Stoltenberg said at a news conference.
“President Putin wants to take Ukraine in a few days and divide us. On both counts, he has clearly failed,” he added.
Please note that Russia has been attacking Ukraine since February 24, 2022. This has sparked one of the deadliest conflicts in Europe since WWII and the biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when the Soviet Union and the United States came close to carrying out a deliberate nuclear war.
“Crazy” battle.
Meanwhile, intense fighting in Soledar in eastern Ukraine. Please note that this area is located in the industrial zone of Donbass.
Soledar is also close to Bakhmut. Ukraine is trying to defend these two areas from Russian occupation.
Several reports, among others Reuters, mentioning how “crazy” the Ukrainian troops were. Ukrainian forces briefly pushed back the Russians, including units of the Wagner group.
Wagner himself was a soldier recruited from Russian prisons and known for his uncompromising violence. Wagner was founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The enemy literally trampled the corpses of their own soldiers,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said, reporting on the battle published on Tuesday.
“(They) used mass artillery, MLRS systems and mortars,” he added.
A Ukrainian military analyst, Dari Zhdanov, said the fighting at Soledar and Bahkmut was “the most intense on the entire front”. There is little progress.
“So many (troops and pro Russia) remain on the battlefield… dead or wounded,” he said on YouTube.
“They attack in waves, but the wounded usually die in a saga on the spot, either from extreme cold or from loss of blood,” he added.
“Nobody came to help them or to collect the dead from the battlefield,” he said.
There has been no Russian comment on this. Previously, Russia has been criticized for providing false information about the war.
Russia’s defense ministry said it sent rocket attacks against buildings in the city of Kramatorsk and said it killed at least 600 Ukrainian soldiers. This was a revenge operation for the country’s deadly attack near the Russian barracks in Makiivka, the Russian-controlled Donetsk region of Ukraine, which killed 89 Kremlin soldiers.
However, in reports by several other Western media on the ground, the Russian missile attack on the city allegedly missed. Indeed, there were no clear signs of casualties, according to a reporter covering it.
