Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia is reportedly deploying warships to encircle Ukraine. This has been reported by a number of media as a new strategy after the Kremlin has tended to rely on ground troops.
Russian warships written EurAsian Times quoted on Thursday (17/3/2022), has entered Berdyansk, a port city in Ukraine that Moscow has captured. The city is close to Mariupol which President Vladimir Putin’s army is still trying to conquer.
According to the report this has also been confirmed by British military intelligence monitoring. The Russian army has also been trying to land the amphibious chapel off the Sea of Azov since March 13.
“Russia has carried out one amphibious landing in the Sea of Azov and may carry out further similar operations in the coming weeks,” the UK Ministry of Defense said, citing intelligence as posted on Twitter.
Three bucks, in the latest report CNN International, the United States (US) Department of Defense also implies the same thing. The tempo of Russian attacks is said to have started to increase in Ukraine by using warships in the Black Sea.
A senior US Defense official said that several locations were pounded from the sea. These are cities on the coast, one of which is Odessa, which is the center of Ukraine’s maritime port.
“We have observed shootings in several cities ourselves, some cities near Odessa, but not in Odessa,” he said.
“I really don’t want to speculate but it could be that they are just preparing a way to facilitate some kind of ground attack in Odessa.”
Russia itself launched an attack on Ukraine on February 24 last. Putin said this attack was carried out to achieve two things: a neutral Ukraine and to force Kyiv to recognize its annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Until now reports of war is still going on and Moscow has not been able to control Kyiv. Citing UN data, at least 1,300 Ukrainians have died and more than 2.5 million have fled to neighboring countries.
