Captain Sebastian Langvad moves quickly and efficiently in the heather and over the snow. On steep slopes, he pushes forward on all fours.
The landscape around Kirkenes looks open from a distance, but up close there are streams, small depressions, gorges, marshes and scrub forest. The soldiers run arched through the terrain.
For Langvad, it is reminiscent of Afghanistan.
– Suddenly the bullets whine. A few minutes of intense firing. Then it’s over, he says.
It seems that he is in his right element, but really he is a theorist. Langvad has been involved in the rather narrow, Norwegian military debate since he went to the War School. The inspiration he took me home from Afghanistan. Now another war has suddenly made the debate important.
