The Russian invasion of Ukraine, also referred to as the “special operation”, will end when “the tasks are completed”, says diplomat Alexey Polischuk from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the Russian state news agency Tass.
Polischuk says that the invasion is going as planned and that all goals will be reached.
“Among the goals are to protect the peaceful population of the Donbas, demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, as well as to eliminate the threats from the Ukrainian territory that have come due to the country being captured by NATO countries,” he said.
Allegations of Nazism
When Vladimir Putin launched what Russia calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24, one of the goals was for Ukraine to be “denazified”.
Putin and the Russian authorities have for several years made claims that right-wing extremists and Nazis have a major influence on today’s Ukraine. Putin has also claimed that the Ukrainian government consists of right-wing extremists who oppress the pro-Russian population.
However, the Russian forces have faced considerable resistance in Ukraine.
