No details have been given about the death of the colonel, but according to a Russian local newspaper the colonel’s sister, Tatiana Karsakova, is said to have written some strong words about her brother on a page about the memorial service.

– It is impossible to put into words how much pain you feel when you lose a close and dear person. Dear brother, you will always be alive in our hearts !, she must have written.

It is unclear how many soldiers Russia has lost since the invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, but Russian authorities have acknowledged that a significant number of soldiers have been killed.

According to the BBC, Western countries estimate that between 7,000 and 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in the western part of Ukraine alone, from which the Russian army has now withdrawn.

According to British intelligence, Russia is having problems recruiting enough soldiers and is now trying to bring in veterans who joined the military before 2012.

Russia is also trying to replace losses on the battlefield in Ukraine with soldiers from the separatist-controlled breakaway region of Transnistria east of Moldova, according to the update. The region borders the southwestern part of Ukraine.

A link to the intelligence report was posted on Sunday Twitter.
