Major General Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of the Russian military’s 8th Army, was laid to rest in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
He is said to have been killed in action in Ukraine, reports the Russian state news agency Tass.
The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, is said to have attended the ceremony.
If the Ukrainians’ claims are true, he is the eighth Russian general killed in Ukraine since the start of the war.
The Russians have suffered heavy casualties during the war.
