– Due to the bombing by the Russian forces, the park was destroyed. We kill all adult animals because it is neither possible to evacuate nor transport them.
This is what Oleksandr Feldman, the founder of the zoo Kharkiv Ecopark, says to Ukrainian Truth.
He goes on to tell how the cages of the animals and the infrastructure have been destroyed, but that both the lions and the tigers have miraculously survived the bombing.
– Their cages have been badly damaged. They can go out at any time.
– Must make a decision today
The building where the park’s bears live has also been badly damaged.
– We have to make a decision today. By nightfall, we must decide to kill them, put them under anesthesia or move them.
Feldman, on the other hand, is skeptical about whether any of the animals will survive.
– If we come up with an idea, we might be able to save some of them, maybe the young jaguars or panthers, but all adult animals will probably be killed.
