The war in Ukraine – Can kidnap Western minister

A well-known Russian politician has proposed that Russia kidnap a Western defense minister and bring him to Russia for questioning, several media outlets report, including Reuters and Sky News.

In an interview on the talk show “60 Minutes”, which is broadcast twice daily on state television in Russia, Oleg Morozov, deputy to the State Duma in Russia, revealed what he described as his own “fantastic plan”.

– You know, maybe it’s a fantastic plan I’ve come up with … which means that in the near future, at some point, a “war minister” from a NATO country will take the train to Kyiv to talk to Zelensky. But he never shows up. And he wakes up somewhere in Moscow, he says.

Morozov has been a longtime member of the Duma of the largest party, United Russia, and has previously worked directly under President Vladimir Putin.

The host of «60 Minutes», Olga Skabejeva, who is a staunch supporter of President Vladimir Putinwanted to make sure she interpreted Morozov correctly:

– You mean to kidnap him? she asked.

Morozov replied in the affirmative:

– Yes. Then we would find out who gave what order for what, who is responsible for what, Morozov said, adding:

– It’s not such a crazy scenario. There are new rules in this world now. Just let all the “war ministers” who flock to Kyiv think a little about what it would be like to wake up in Moscow, he said.

Several Western ministers have visited Ukraine in recent weeks and the capital Kyiv is showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Also Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party) and President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani (Labor Party) visited Ukraine in May.

Russian TV propaganda

Guests and presenters on Russian state television have on several occasions made very strong allegations about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In April, journalist Margarita Simonjan said on the talk show “60 Minutes” that if it ends in nuclear war, it is the Russians who go to heaven.

In another clip from the same talk show, Olga Skabejeva outlined how many seconds it takes for a Russian rocket to hit European cities such as Berlin, Paris and London.

– 202 seconds to London, Skabejeva exemplified while pointing to a map.

Carefully directed

Professor of security studies at the University of Tromsø, Gunhild Hoogensen Gjørv, has previously stated to Dagbladet that everything that is broadcast on Russian television must be assumed to be carefully directed.

“They know that this is spreading to the international community, and want to show the outside world how far they are willing to go to save Russia from the West,” she told Dagbladet and added:

– It can be a way to get the West to step down and stop supporting Ukraine, because they know that the West is cautious and does not want to risk nuclear war.
