Princess Latifa, one of the daughters of the emir of Dubai, seems to be enjoying more and more freedom and can travel, a lawyer for the activist group that campaigned for her release told Reuters today.
A new photo of Sheikh Latifa, the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, appeared on Instagram, in which she appears to be abroad. Earlier, photos of her appeared in public places in Dubai, where she claimed to have been held as a prisoner.
“We are pleased to see that Latifa seems to have a passport, to travel and to enjoy an increasing degree of freedom, these are very positive steps,” said David Hague, co-founder of the Free Latifa campaign. “I can also confirm that several people on our team have been in direct contact with Latifa,” Hague said.
In the photo posted on Instagram on Sunday night, Latifa is with teacher Schoned Taylor against the backdrop of a terminal at Madrid airport, DPA reported. “Great holiday in Europe with Latifa. It’s fun to discover new places!” Taylor wrote, adding a smiling face. Both are wearing masks.
In February, the BBC released a video message in which Latifa said she was being held against her will in a high-security villa, prompting UN human rights activists to urge UAE authorities to provide evidence that the princess was “alive” and to release her.
Princess Latifa, 35, tried to escape her father in 2018 by boarding a yacht to sail to India.
