The walrus «Freya» – Observed in Oslo

The 600 kilo walrus has received massive attention in recent weeks and has become a talking point on social media after several visits along the coast.

In particular, she has received attention for putting herself in small boats that are at the quay and that she does not seem to be significantly anxious about people.

Last night, “Freya” has been observed on a pier at Kongen Marina by Frognerstranda. She was first seen in Oslo yesterday afternoon.

The first time “Freya” was seen in Norway was in Troms in 2019, according to NRK. The walrus has also been observed in Denmark, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom in the past.

Throughout the summer, the walrus Freya has been observed in several places along the coast in southern Norway.

And she apparently enjoyed herself in the skerries around Kragerø, where she was for a long time.

She had been staying here in the area since April, and lately she has developed a penchant for relaxing on boats. Earlier in June, a RIB boat was destroyed after a visit by Freya.

Rapporteur in Kragerø, Grunde Wegar Knudsen (Sp), stated that Freya had to be removed after settling into at least two boats in the area.

– I have been concerned with finding a solution. Then the professional bodies get to assess what is the best solution. Whether it is to try to catch “Freya” and transport it to domestic funnels, or in the worst case a killing, the mayor says to the national broadcaster, the mayor said to NRK in June.
