If “Wagner” remains in its current form, it would significantly and potentially undesirably drain Belarus’ modest resources

The Wagner Group is likely to be heading for a shrinking and restructuring process, largely to save costs on staff wages due to funding complications, British Ministry of Defense intelligence said.

After the failed rebellion in June, the Russian state worked against some business interests of Wagner owner Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to British intelligence, there is a real possibility that the Kremlin is no longer funding the group.

If the Russian state no longer pays Wagner, the second most likely payer of the mercenary group remains the Belarusian authorities.

However, if Wagner remains in its current form, it would significantly and potentially undesirably drain Belarus’ modest resources.
