A representative of the Wagner group writes in a message to Aftenposten that they believe they have material that proves this.
The Russian Wagner group is a private military company with mercenaries.
The group claims that Medvedev was part of a Norwegian battalion called “Nidhogg”. They also claim that Medvedev has Norwegian citizenship, and that he has mistreated prisoners of war.
– Be careful, he is very dangerous, writes the group.
Medvedev’s lawyer, Brynjulf Risnes, does not want to comment on the allegations, but nevertheless rejects Medvedev’s connection to Norway.
– He has absolutely no Norwegian citizenship or any previous connection to Norway, as far as I know. This sounds like a strange explanation, says Risnes NRK.
Medvedev was arrested on Friday by the Norwegian Armed Forces in Pasvikdalen, and he is now seeking asylum in Norway. Risnes says The daily newspaper that the client fears being sent back to Russia.
– He considers it certain death to be sent back. It is difficult to say how certain it is, but he believes there is a significant risk of reprisals, says Risnes.
