This season, the W Series will be contested for the first time as support races for Formula 1 – and will be broadcast live on free-to-air TV on Channel 4 in the UK.
Channel 4 continues its coverage after the inaugural W Series season in 2019, when Williams development pilot Jamie Chadwick won the series’ first championship.
The all-female series will take place on an increased eight-race schedule in support of the Formula 1 weekends – the first of which is set to take place at the Styrian Grand Prix on the weekend of June 25-27, along with the Austrian. Grand Prix at the same location a week later.
The program also includes tentatively scheduled races, if the Covid-19 situation permits, at Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa, Zandvoort, Austin and Mexico.
Along with the announcement of the broadcast arrangements came confirmation from its pitch team, with Sky’s Lee McKenzie and Anna Woolhouse in pitching duties, Ted Kravitz and MotoGP presenter Amy Reynolds live from the pit lane, alongside by Naomi Schiff, who appeared in the W series in 2019, brought in as an analyst.
Channel 4’s F1 commentary team of Alex Jacques, David Coulthard and Billy Monger will be behind the microphones as they get the action on track.
The W series will be broadcast live and unencrypted on @ Channel4 with a diverse team of commentators.
