DO YOU REMEMBER? The station wagon version of the VW ID.7 is here, called Tourer in international edition. All photos: INGO BARENSCHEE/VOLKWAGEN
Passat replaces as station wagon:
Once half of Norway rolled around in a Passat station wagon. Now Volkswagen is releasing the electric successor, the ID.7 Tourer.
– The ID.7 is a model we expect to sell significant volumes of, says Ulf Tore Hekneby, Harald A. Møller CEO and acting head of VW Norway.
In 2023, the coupé version of the ID.7 arrived, spacious and with a WLTP range of up to 600 km, depending on the equipment variant.
The station wagon, which had its world premiere on Monday, has up to 685 km electric range – and up to 605 liters of luggage space, up to 1714 liters with the rear seats folded down.
There should then be enough space for two-metre-long planks behind the front backrest.
Have you read these cases?
Even faster
The ID.7 was surprisingly weak in the range part of our winter test, despite stable consumption quite close to the WLTP promise.
But it charged quickly. And it will go even faster now.
The station wagon has a battery with a charging power of up to 200 kWt. The coupé we tested a few weeks ago had stated a maximum of 175, but we registered 190 kW at the most at the bar.
Prices and delivery time have not yet been communicated.
Station wagon?
Then one question remains – which is becoming urgently important for Volkswagen in Norway:
Do hearts still beat for the station wagon, or is it only the SUV that applies?
VW has had tough competition in a trial of a new car market.
The four-wheel drive version of the ID.4 has certainly done well in the tightest car class, while sales of an improved ID.3 have picked up.
Otherwise it is thin.
THE KEY FIGURES: 605 liters with the seats up, 1714 liters with the second row folded down.
KOSELIG: And you can’t complain about the view, either.
Rattle start
The brand that has subscribed to the top spot on the Norwegian top was only the third best-selling brand last year. This year’s market has been, to put it mildly, rattled, perhaps especially for Volkswagen – which has so far only registered around 550 new cars. We are used to figures that are 4-5 times higher.
The ID.7 station wagon comes at the same time that more and more brands are presenting electric station wagons:
The MG5 bathed alone for a while, but has been joined by the Nio ET5 Touring, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer and most recently the BMW i5 Touring.
Next to the ID.7, an electric Audi A6 Avant will also be coming soon.
Of these, the Opel has the most registrations (38 so far this year), a figure that is hardly suitable for concluding in any kind of direction about the possibility of this car class making a comeback to old heights.
