In 2016, the whole world was watching the United States, where the tycoon Donald Trump had just won the election for the Republican Party with the slogan “Make America great again.” Thus he took over from the Democrat Barack Obama, who before leaving the White House became the first US president to visit Cuba in 88 years.
But it was not the only decisive vote that took place that year: also in 2016, the Brexit referendum kept the European Union in suspense. With a narrow margin, the option of rupture ended up triumphing over the permanence of the United Kingdom in the community bloc, and the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, resigned. Theresa May relieved him of his post.
