Two days before the presidential election, the political atmosphere is increasingly electrified. Between the Collective of Candidates and the outgoing president, no reconciliation is possible. Each side is throwing all its strength into the battle to convince the Malagasy of the correctness of its positions. The opposition did everything to ensure that the election was postponed while candidate number 3, assured of the opposite, finished his electoral campaign on a high note.
The vote will take place as planned
For two months, the Candidates’ Collective has developed its arguments to postpone the date of the presidential election in order to clean up the entire electoral process and have a free and transparent vote. The government constantly refused the dialogue proposal from these candidates and stuck to the established timetable. They therefore decided to organize demonstrations which were harshly repressed, but this did not discourage them. The rank of supporters of the movement grew day by day. With its prerogatives, the government has never accepted the principle of a round table to try to find consensus with the opposition. The request to change an HCC deemed biased and an CENI unreliable was completely refused. The FFKM which proposed mediation did not succeed in reconciling the points of view of the two parties. As a last resort, the President of the National Assembly proposed bringing together all the forces of the Nation to resolve the current crisis. The resolutions of the dialogue platform that it set up with the FFKM were presented to SADC representatives who affirmed that they did not have the power to push back the date of the elections. The vote will therefore take place in two days and the only alternative found by the candidates is to ask the Malagasy people not to vote. The fate of the country is now sealed: the vote will take place as planned.
