The Volvo EX30 is designed to be shared

The EX30 model, Volvo’s upcoming electric crossover, which is supposed to fit under the current EX40 model in the range, is to be directly designed not for the customer to own it completely, as we are used to with cars, but to rent it as part of a monthly flat-rate payment.

Jim Rowan, the head of the brand, told the British website Autocar that this business model is intended to attract new customers. And especially the youngest, i.e. generation Z – people born at the turn of the millennium. In order for them to reach it financially, the monthly flat rate should be reasonably low.

And at the same time, in order to attract younger customers, for whom Volvo has not yet been very attractive, it should have a bolder design. “You can still tell it’s a Volvo, and we want to carry some elements of the EX90 into future models. But with a smaller car, you can play more with different things. A wider spectrum is needed for colors, materials or overall expression,” said Robin Page, Volvo’s chief designer.

According to the British, the EX30 is supposed to stand on the SEA platform, which is now used by Smart #1 and several models of the Zeekr brand, which, like Volvo, belongs to the Chinese concern Geely, but focuses on the Chinese market. This means that the drive can be either one electric motor on the rear axle or two for the quad. As for the battery capacity, a lower number can be expected to make the car cheaper and also lighter.

We will see how it turns out in June this year, when the car is to be presented. It is also not yet clear whether the possibility of shared use of a car for a monthly flat-rate payment will also be available here.

Volvo EX30 will be imported from China, ideal customers should be eighteen years old
