The volleyball players of “Amber-Arlanga” defeated the champions in the first quarter-final match of the Baltic League

The February 16th holiday was celebrated by the Gargžda “Amber-Arlanga” volleyball players with a nice victory in the quarterfinals of the “Credit24” Baltic Men’s Volleyball League.

In the first match of the quarter-finals at home, Amber-Arlanga defeated defending champion Selver (Estonia) 3-0 (25:22, 25:16, 25:21) and took a 1-0 lead in the series to two victories.
Although the Gargžda club lost 0-3 to the same “Selver” team in Estonia a week ago, this time the hosts, supported by their fans, showed a solid game during all three sets. It is true that in the first set the opponents were ahead 21:18, but then “Amber-Arlanga” won an impressive section 7:1 and finished the first set with smiles. In both the second and third sets, the Gargžda club controlled the situation and did not leave the opponents with higher hopes. In the regular season, Amber-Arlanga was fifth and Selver was fourth. Daumantas Katinas scored 14 points for the winners, Artūras Vincėlovičius scored 12, Andrejus Čmirovas and Viktoras Ščekaliukas scored 8 each. Oliveris Oravas played the most productively in the Estonian team (12 points).
“Of course, we expected victory. Last weekend’s game showed that we can really play with them. Then we didn’t just play the ends of the sets, but the whole fight was even. Today we were even more engaged and motivated. But this is only half the job,” said Arturas Sitniks, player of “Amber-Arlanga”. It was the last match of the Gargžda club at home.
“An additional charge of motivation was provided by the anthem, because today is February 16. Today is Lithuania’s day, so Lithuania must win. Today we were happy, and tomorrow we will start working. All the most important work will be done on the weekend”, emphasized A. Sitnikas.
