For a commercial vehicle, it would be unthinkable for the first few months to be sold without a diesel engine under the hood. However, the new Volkswagen Multivan is not a fully commercial vehicle, although at the carmaker it falls under the “utility” division. In the new generation, there was a separation from the T series and a move to a modified MQB platform, which is also used by golf or the Škoda Octavia.

The only diesel engine to offer a total of four powertrains – last year, the multivan was introduced with two four-cylinder petrol engines and a plug-in hybrid, into which petrol was also fueled in addition to electricity – is being added right now. In addition to this announcement, the carmaker also provided some technical data of the new variant.

We have known since last year that it will be a four-cylinder EA288evo with a capacity of 1968 cc and an output of 110 kW, ie 150 hp. We now learn that 360 Nm of torque is available from 1600 to 1750 rpm. Like all pure multivan combustion systems, this engine works with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and drives only the front wheels. Don’t wait for the ATV, it will only be available for the plug-in hybrid.

Finally, the most important thing. Fuel consumption according to WLTP should be 5.3-5.4 l / 100 km, which together with a 58 liter tank should be enough for a range of over 1000 km. Of course, in the real world, consumption will be different, it will depend on how you load the car and how and where you drive it.

Let’s add that the diesel multivan can, depending on the configuration – both short and long versions are available, ie length 4973 and 5973 mm – to load up to 807 kg of crew and cargo, that will pull a trailer weighing up to two tons. The German price is from 48,748 euros, ie almost exactly 1.25 million crowns, in the Czech Republic the diesel multivan costs from 1,297,170 crowns for the short version and 1,337,592 crowns for the long version.
