The Volkswagen Jetta left the European market a long time ago, but it lives on across the ocean and even pleases with a special model dedicated to the 40s in the United States market.
The Volkswagen Jetta GLI came to the US market in 1984 as an offer for those Golf GTI fans who wanted to see a car with a sedan body instead of a hatchback.
To mark this event, Volkswagen has developed the GLI 40th Anniversary Edition, which will be available only in the US market and limited to 1,984 units. The car will be available to order already this summer and will cost 29,235 dollars (approximately 26,400 euros).
The anniversary model is available in Pure Gray, Pure White and Rising Blue body colors. In all variants, the sedan will stand out with a black radiator grill, mirror housings and 18-inch wheel rims in a ten-spoke design, red brake calipers and accents of the same color. The red color is also used for the plaques and interior design of the anniversary model. Red stitching is a special design for the seats and door panels, it is used to finish the gear lever and elbow rest. The corner is decorated with the “40” logo in a red frame, while the drink holder stands out with the inscriptions “GLI” and “1984”.
In the engine compartment of the anniversary model, the standard two-liter four-cylinder turbo unit developing 231 hp and 350 Nm works in combination with a six-speed manual gearbox and an electronic differential lock. There is also a version with a seven-speed robotic DSG gearbox, which will be 800 dollars more expensive.
The 1984 Volkswagen Jetta GLI was equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that developed 90 hp and 136 Nm of torque.
