The Volkswagen Group calls over 111,000 cars for service. You could do the repair at home

The German Volkswagen Group is solving a literally hot problem with Audi, Cupra, Seat, Škoda and parent VW cars. There is a risk of fire on selected models, which may be caused by a loose engine trim cover.

The call for events worldwide covers 111,321 vehicles, which combine to have a 2.0 TSI Evo petrol engine under the hood. On cars, the decorative plastic engine cover may come loose, which may come into contact with hot engine parts, and there is a risk of fire if the molten cover subsequently encounters even hotter components, such as the turbocharger.

Specific problematic models are the Audi Q3 and TT, Cupra Ateca, Formentor and Leon, Seat Tarraco, Škoda Karoq, Kodiaq, Octavia Superb and finally Volkswagen Arteon, Golf, Passat, T-Roc and Tiguan. The affected cars were manufactured between 2020 and 2022. In the case of the Volkswagen, there were already sixteen cases in which the car actually started burning.

The highest number of cars involved in the convening event is in Germany: over 55,000. In the Czech Republic, the number is much lower; Other concern brands are significantly less affected in our country, according to the representative of Porsche CR importer Filip Stoulil, there are 27 Audi cars, 116 Seat and Cuper cars and 436 Volkswagen cars.

The solution to the problem is very simple. In a car repair shop, they simply take off the “snapped” engine cover. It takes a few minutes. The modified cover is not yet available, so owners of affected vehicles must drive without it. However, this should not have any or significant effect on functionality.

The owners could hypothetically solve the convening event at home, but the carmakers have to carry out the exchange at the service station mainly for legislative reasons. The relevant service will then also know who to invite to install the modified cover.
