As “Delphi” informs the choir director, the conductor Int. Teterovskis, Australian listeners will be able to get acquainted with the choir’s new program “Music for Voices”, in which choral music by Andras Sējān and Valtas Pūce is played, dedicated to the choir on its 35th anniversary. The repertoire of the XXVII General Latvian Song Festival, which is currently available to all participants in two newly released sheet music books, will be learned in masterclasses together with Australian Latvians.
From 3 to 8 January, “Voices” will participate for the first time at the Sydney Festival, the largest and most prestigious annual arts festival in Australia. The choir will take part in the performance of the opera “Sun&Sea”, which represented Lithuania at the Venice Art Biennale in 2019 and received the highest award – “Golden Lion”.
Ints Teterovskis says, “The invitation to participate in the Sydney festival is a great opportunity and international recognition. Especially this time, when we will be able to perform a joint work of Lithuanian and Australian artists that is so appreciated in the world. Opera-performances “Sun&Sea” (“Sun and sea”) created by Lithuanian artists Rugile Barzdžukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė, Līna Lapelīte (Lapelytė). It tells the story of climate change with irony, where the end of the world comes not as a global catastrophe but as endless lounging on the beach in the evening sun. The opera will be performed for three days at the Sydney Town Hall on the sand. For this opportunity, the biggest thanks to our Australian “agent”, the director of the Sydney Latvian Theater, Ilona Brewer.
After participating in the Sydney festival, the “Voices” will perform in Melbourne on January 14th and 15th, and in Sydney from January 16th to 20th.
Teterovskis also reminds that in Latvia “Balsis” this year you can still hear Riga St. In the Church of the Savior on December 22 at 20 and 23, and on December 23 at 20 in traditional Christmas concerts. In this program, with peace, hope and a long muted feeling, the first part of the concert will feature music by Philip Glass, Ukrainian composer Valentín Silvestrov, Arvo Pert, Pēter Vaskas and Pēter Butāns, while the second part of the program will be Christmas music by Jura Karlsons and Uģ Prauliņš plays, chosen to commemorate the great musician and conductor Andrejas Jansons, who passed away this year, with whom it was staged in 2008.
