The number of contaminations is increasing in Normandy. With an incidence rate of 188 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the region takes 30 points in two weeks. The dynamic is therefore bad, believes the regional health agency, and it is in almost all Norman departments.
There is a peak in Calvados where the incidence rate climbs by 28% in one week. Only Seine-Maritime has not seen an increase, even if the level of circulation of the virus remains high there, especially in urban centers.
Predominance of the English variant
This increase is explained in particular by the predominance of the British variant, around 70% of new contaminations. The Brazilian and South African strains remain residual except in the Channel where they reach 10% of new cases.
The consequence is very direct on our hospitals. Now half of the patients treated in intensive care are covid patients. The number of patients is increasing in these services, but for the time being no deprogramming of operations requested even if this should eventually happen, predicts the regional health agency.
In any case, Normandy will not welcome patients from already saturated regions such as Ile-de-France or Hauts-de-France. We must already be able to treat all Norman cases, assures the boss of the regional health agency.
5,000 more vaccinations this weekend
Vaccination was boosted last weekend in Normandy with the opening of 30 vaccination centers in the region. A total of 14,000 people received a first or second dose of the vaccine. The device will be renewed this weekend with 5,000 additional vaccinations. They will be concentrated in Seine-Maritime, Eure and Calvados.
