I don’t see where the scientific interest lies in naming the variants by their supposed place of first appearance. The virus has no nationality. Associating it with a country creates tension vis-à-vis the cited country.
I understand that we say it at the beginning, when we notice his mutation in a given place, but then what does that bring?
