A new discovery has been made regarding the transmission of the coronavirus (covid-19). While scientists once made it known that transmission of the virus through the air was not possible, this thesis has recently been called into question. Indeed, other researchers have estimated that coronaviruses can stay suspended in the air through aerosols.
Traces of covid-19 have the possibility of remaining in droplets
This type of contamination was illustrated in a production published by Spanish television, RTVE. It shows a meal around what smble to be a restaurant table. From the moment a person takes off his mask to eat, sensors register in red the volutes of air rejected by the people who are at the table. According to the virologist, Antonio Alcami, several traces of covid-19 have the possibility of remaining inside droplets of less than one micron which remain suspended in the air. “Droplets of 100 microns and larger fall quickly and contaminate surfaces. Droplets smaller than 100 microns are aerosolized and can stay in the air longer ” he added. In addition, the infrared camera shows that the isolation of an elevator car increases the risk of contamination.
In this closed environment, however, the masks do not prevent passengers from exhaling droplets capable of remaining in suspension for a long time. In view of this fact, the microbiologist Sergio Marco recommends never removing the mask even when alone. “Everyone must wear their mask at all times, even alone, because in an enclosed space, if I remove my mask, the particles that I reject remain in the air” did he declare.
