With the arrival of the winter dates, cases of influenza A are on the rise and there are many people who have recently been infected with this virus in Ceuta. Given this, the head of the Preventive Medicine Service and Health labor of Hospital University, Julian Dominguez, he wanted to reassure the population by indicating that these are typical cases of the seasonal pattern.
“It is true that we are in a situation of recovery of influenza A casesbut this is typical of the seasonal pattern in which we find ourselves, since due to the very limited use of the prevention measures that we had in years past, such as masks, transmission is higher,” indicated Domínguez.
This transmission occurs due to saliva droplets or contact that occurs between a person carrying the virus and a healthy person and, by not using masks, they spread more easily, producing more infections.
Likewise, he expressed that it is a normal behavior of this virus and that it is “being as it has always been, without being especially worse or more virulent than on other occasions,” explained the doctor from Ceuta.
“It is simply a habitual pattern, to which must be added that there are still cases Covidand they will continue to exist and now, with less intensity, of respiratory syncytial virus, which has had its peak before, ”said Julián Domínguez.
These cases have occurred due to the removal of the prevention measures that had been activated, as is the case of the masks, which is why Domínguez recommended the use of these in people who have some type of symptom of this type of disease, coughing, sneezing or mucus, as well as vulnerable people when they are in crowds, regardless of the mandatory nature, with the aim of stopping its spread.
Lastly, he stated that it is difficult to predict when a seasonal flu peak will occur since there are years in which it occurs in the month of November and others in which it occurs almost into spring, but this year it did produced between December and January.
