The virtual 2020 New York Marathon video

More than 28,000 people signed up to run virtually the New York Marathon which was to have been held this Sunday, November 1, and instead held an alternative edition in which runners from all over the world registered their races until that same November 1. Many of them did it in the same streets of the American city in Central Park, where a finish tape like the one in the real test was put on so that they felt sensations slightly similar to those of other years.

In the test, runners from 50 US states and 130 different countries and others were registered in places as attractive as on a road on a hill next to the sea, in the middle of a forest or in the semi-empty streets of any city, as shown by a video edited by the race organization itself.

The test also included elite American athletes such as Des Linden, Deena Kastor, Meb Keflezighiwheelchair stars like Tatyana McFadden and Daniel Romanchuk, athletes withdrawn as Tiki Barber and James Blake and television figures like Amy Robach and Willie ghost.

The organization explains that the race is part of the NYRR Volvo Virtual Racing created in 2018 and that since then it has managed to get more than 190,000 people to finish the races. The 2021 New York Marathon is scheduled for November 7, when it will celebrate its 50th edition.
