The Violation of Wildlife Laws in Lebanon: Environmental Activist Exposes State’s Failure

Environmental activist Ghina Nahfawi wrote, in a post on her account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter): “This agama is a local wild animal. Any local wild thing is forbidden from being acquired, hunted, captured, sold, or traded.”

She added, “No one is capable of this talking animal, whose name is Ali Miqdad, because it is a state of anointed prestige.”

She continued, “This is a person who has flouted all laws and put the state in his pants pocket. You lived and Lebanon lived.”

She posted a link to his page on TikTok, writing: “This is his page for everyone who wants to watch the state’s failure. Bring popcorn.”

She added, “Since I do not intend to surrender, this violator of the laws is in the hands of the security forces, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of the Environment, and the Environmental Judiciary. Hopefully, you will not disturb this active judiciary that does not calm down day or night.”

She concluded: “How you left the wildlife trafficking file wide open, I don’t know. History will not be merciful. But that’s it. We will remember you and remember you name by name.”
