The Villejuif Martial Arts Center will bear the name of the Guyanese judoka Lucie Décosse

The city of Villejuif, in the Val-de-Marne, has chosen to name its future martial arts center after the champion Lucie Décosse. The judokas, of Guianese origin, grew up there.

In anticipation of tomorrow’s talents who will train there, the municipality of Villejuif (94) has chosen to honor a champion with multiple medals. During the municipal council of May 10, it was decided to give the name of Lucie Décosse to the future house of Martial Arts.

After Matoury, Guyana, where his mother is originally from, the judoka is once again honored in the public space.

The Guyanese sample raised in Villejuif, in the Pasteur district, points to the town hall, which voted unanimously for this name: “Lucie Décosse remains very attached to the city of Villejuif and has accepted with pleasure that the martial arts house bears her name and we are very honored that she has accepted this name”explained Valérie Morin, sports assistant at the town hall of Villejuif.

Lucie Décosse had left this city to make her judo debut in Écouen, Val-d’Oise, before experiencing her first successes in Guyana, where her mother is originally from.

A swarm of titles will follow, first in the -63 kg then in the -70 kg: three times world champion, four times European champion, before his Olympic consecration at the age of 30, in 2012, during the London Olympics, four years after the silver in Beijing. Lucie Décosse retired in 2013 and is now a coach.
