TRAINER Vietnam U-16 national team, Nguyen Quoc Tuan, revealed the reason why his team lost 1-2 to Indonesian National Team U-16 in the final matchday of Group A AFF U-16 Cup 2022, Saturday 6 August 2022 evening WIB. He said two quick goals made by the Indonesian U-16 national team at the beginning of the second half changed everything.
In that match, the Vietnam U-16 national team actually scored the first goal against the U-16 Indonesian national team in the first round. The Golden Star -the nickname of the Vietnam U-16 National Team – won 1-0 through a penalty kick by Nguyen Cong Phuong (41′).
However, the Garuda Asia squad – the nickname of the U-16 Indonesian National Team – immediately pounced on the Golden Star defense at the beginning of the second half. The Indonesian U-16 national team was able to turn things around through goals from Arkhan Kaka Putra (51′) and Muhammad Nabil Asyura (54′).
After the match, Nguyen Quoc Tuan explained why his team could concede two quick goals. At that time, the Vietnam U-16 national team players played less carefully and were careless when overcoming the attacks of the U-16 Indonesian national team.
“It was only at the start of the second half that the players played sloppy and unfocused that we conceded two goals very quickly,” Nguyen Quoc Tuan told his post-match press conference.
In addition, Nguyen Quoc Tuan also blamed the referee’s decision which was considered unfair. Because, with the decision made by the referee, the Vietnam U-16 national team felt aggrieved. He also regretted that it could happen to his team.
“And for the referees, as I mentioned before, they gave us a lot of losses. They didn’t let our goals go, sometimes we had an advantage, but the referee blew the whistle so the chances were lost,” said Nguyen Quoc Tuan.
“So that’s why we had a lot of pressure and losses in this game,” said Nguyen Quoc Tuan.
As a result of this defeat, Vietnam finished as runners-up in Group A with six points. Vietnam still has to wait for the results of Myanmar vs Cambodia and Malaysia vs Australia to make sure they can qualify for the semifinals AFF U-16 Cup 2022 through the best runner-up path or not.
