The Viennese company supplies the first fully electric tamping machine for Germany

VIENNA | The Austrian manufacturer of track construction machinery Plasser & Theurer supplies a fully electric tamping machine for Deutsche Bahn. It has already been presented at the Innotrans in September in Berlin.

According to the manufacturer, the machine called Unimat 09‑4 × 4 / 4S Dynamic E3, equipped with hybrid drive, is the first of its kind in Germany. The contract signed with the DB Bahnbau Group in 2019 also provides for the possibility of delivering a second machine of identical design by 2026.

According to the company, the characteristics of the new tamping machine are as follows: “With its electrically operated 1-berth tamping unit, it can continuously process both sections and switches. The 16 tamping picks that can be used variably, the 3-wire lifting and the 4-wire tamping technique ensure maximum flexibility in the switch. In addition, the DGS dynamic track stabilizer and trailer with sweeping device ensure a perfect finish after tamping.

According to the Viennese company, the machine is significantly quieter thanks to hybrid drive and electrically operated tamping units. The transfer speed is therefore 100 km / h.
