The victims of the broken lift in Italy are already 14 – EU

The victims of the lift accident in Italy are already 14 and their number may continue to grow, the BBC reported.

Yesterday, a cabin with tourists broke away from the cable car passing by Lake Maggiore and fell on a steep wooded slope. People traveled from the resort town of Stresa to Mount Motarone in the Alps, in the province of Piedmont.

The mountain rescue service announced that two injured children – aged 5 and 9 – were sent by helicopter to a hospital in Turin. The 9-year-old later died of severe injuries sustained in the fall. The other child has multiple fractures but is conscious. An operation was required.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Eyewitnesses reported that the metal rope used to move the cabins broke about 300 meters from the top.

The number of victims in the lift accident in Italy has increased

The lift from Stresa to Mount Motarone takes passengers up to 1491 meters above sea level. The journey takes about 20 minutes. The cabins have a capacity of 40 people, but it is not clear yet how many people were in the damaged cabin.

The signal for the tragic incident was given to the rescue service around 12:00 local time on Sunday. Mountain rescuers arrived on the scene and found that the cabin was severely deformed. It fell from a height of about 20 meters and overturned several times.
