A young woman and her three small children – they were 10 years, two years and two months old – died as a result of a missile attack on Krivoy Rog, which hit a five-story residential building on Monday morning. Her husband and the children’s father survived, Ukrainian media reported.
In the city of Krivoy Rog in the Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine, the bodies of three children were recovered from the rubble of a five-story residential building, which was hit by a rocket the previous day, on Tuesday morning. The night before it became known that rescuers had blocked the body of a woman, their mother.
The search and rescue operation has been completed, said the head of the Dnepropetrovsk regional military administration, Sergei Lysak.
“The children are 10 years old, two and a half years and two months old. They were at home, their son went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast, and he survived. He fell to the second floor, and they are looking for his wife and children under the rubble,” said the children’s grandmother to the Suspilne TV channel, when it was not yet known that her grandchildren had died.
The woman who died was 32 years old, the prosecutor’s office said.
The head of the village, Alexander Vilkul, clarified the names: Ulyana two months, Demid, who was two years and nine months old, 10-year-old Kirill and their mother Elena. Another 14 people, including children, were injured, Vilkul said, publishing pictures of the dead.
Ukrainian authorities said that on November 11 at about 10:20 a.m., the Russian military fired a ballistic missile at Krivoy Rog. The rocket hit a five-story building, destroying apartments from the first to fifth floors in one of the doors.
The Russian military did not comment on the strike on Krivoy Rog.
Vilkul said they managed to rescue five people from the damaged house in the first few minutes.
Rescuers, along with volunteer dog handlers, searched for people under the rubble throughout the night. After 23:00, Vilkul said that the woman’s body was blocked, and in the morning rescuers pulled her three children from the rubble.
“Russia is only trying to continue the war, and its every blow contradicts any statements from Russia about diplomacy,” replied Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who belongs to the city, to the attack on Krivoy Rog.
November 13 was declared a day of mourning in Krivoy Rog.
