Tragedy in the town of Soto de Rey, in Ribera de Arriba. Pablo MC, 46, has been arrested for allegedly murdering and beheading MAMC, his septuagenarian father. The son hit the victim with two machetes, one in the chest and another in the arm, before cutting off his head. He did it in front of the door of the neighbors whose father was going to ask for help.
“They knocked on our door and we started hearing trouble,” declares one of the victim’s neighbors and his alleged executioner. «We saw someone lying on the ground but we didn’t know who he was. “We called the Civil Guard but we didn’t dare to go out,” she declares.
Then he took his father’s head to the gazebo in the same town, just a hundred meters from the house where the family lived in El Picón. At the same roundabout, he lunged at several cars, bloodied and half naked, according to witnesses of what happened. He placed his head next to the guardrail, but not before kicking it as if it were a ball, as witnesses to the event indicated.

“He threw my head into the hood”
Arancha Lomba, a resident of the area, was driving home from work when she ran into the man: “he got in front of me, started laughing and threw my head on the hood.” At first, she didn’t know what was happening until she realized it was the dismembered head of a real man.
Another driver, Jorge González, who crossed the alleged executioner on his way, told this newspaper that he also pounced on his vehicle, although he was able to swerve and avoid it.
The mayor of Ribera de Arriba, Tomás Fernández, convalescing from an operation, assured that the victim was “a very nice person” and that a few days ago he was speaking with him.
It was around 10 p.m. when several simultaneous calls to the COS of the Asturias Civil Guard Command Zone warned that several motorists on the N-630, pk 35,500 as they pass through Soto de Ribera, were being attacked by an individual. exalted and carrying an ax in his hands. Immediately, various Citizen Security patrols of the Civil Guard moved to the place, which after locating said person, proceeded to arrest him. Moments later he was transferred on a stretcher to an ambulance.
According to the testimonies collected, the man “was crazy”, he was “buzzed” carrying his father’s head and there are even those who observe that he was singing ‘Cara al Sol’.
Criminalistics agents moved to analyze the crime scene, which supposedly occurred outside the family home.
On the other hand, it is also being investigated whether this event is related to an alleged call that the COS received about a man who was going down El Angliru half naked this afternoon.
The mayor of Ribera, very shocked by the news, claimed that he did not know “what could have happened” to trigger this tremendous tragedy.
“He was always very strange but not violent”
Pablo MC spent time at his father’s house, in EL Picón, and others at his mother’s house, who resides in Grado. “He was an introverted but educated person,” the neighbors of Soto de Ribera say of the alleged murderer of his father, who can’t quite believe what happened since he “had never caused any problems.” They highlight that he “leads a hermit’s life” and define him as “a very cultured person, who reads a lot.”
One of his neighbors declares that “he was always very strange” but that “he had never shown signs of violence.”
Regarding the relationship he had with his father, they point out that “they were very good neighbors, both the father and the son”, who assure that “never was a scream heard, nor a word louder than another.”
Medical analysis
The analyzes carried out on the El Picón parricide do not reveal the presence of drugs or alcohol in the body. Pablo Muñiz remains sedated in the HUCA Psychiatry unit since this Monday night, when he was detained in the Soto de Ribera roundabout, with his father’s head in his hand and in the other an ax with which he spread panic among drivers and neighbors.
The 46-year-old man may have suffered a psychotic break, according to the first examinations carried out by the doctors, who will have to wait until they can remove the sedation to carry out a conclusive examination.
Apparently, he had no history of mental health and had never been treated for any psychiatric pathology. Those who know him define him as “an introverted and lonely person” but that he “never showed signs of being violent.”
